English
This half term, Year 6 pupils will be exploring free verse poetry through the poem For Forest by Grace Nichols. Children will read, discuss and perform the poem, looking at how language is used to create imagery and bring the forest to life through personification. They will build their vocabulary and experiment with their own ideas before writing and performing their own free verse poem inspired by the natural world.
This half term, Year 6 pupils will be developing their non-fiction writing through a biography unit based on the book Manfish. Children will learn about the life of Jacques Cousteau and explore how biographies are written, including using facts, quotes and clear organisation. They will finish by creating their own biography, presenting information in an engaging way and explaining why his work was important.

Maths
Maths
This half term, Year 6 pupils will be completing their learning on statistics, ratio and proportion. Children will develop their understanding of ratio, including comparing quantities, using ratio notation and solving problems involving scale and proportion.
As we begin to conclude our teaching units, there will also be an increased focus on SATs revision, with regular opportunities to revisit key concepts in arithmetic and reasoning. This will support pupils in consolidating their understanding and applying their knowledge confidently in preparation for the upcoming assessments.

This half term, Year 6 pupils will be learning about light and how we see. Children will explore how light travels in straight lines and how it reflects into our eyes, as well as learning about the main parts of the eye and their roles. They will investigate how shadows are formed and change, discover that white light is made up of different colours, and use mirrors to explore reflection and how light can be directed along a path.

Geography
This half term, Year 6 pupils will be learning about rivers. Children will explore the key features of rivers, including the upper, middle and lower course, and understand how processes such as erosion, transportation and deposition shape the land. They will study the River Thames, learn about some of the longest rivers in the UK, and investigate how and why flooding occurs, including its impact on people and the environment.

This half term, Year 6 pupils will be exploring 3D art and sculpture. Children will experiment with different materials and techniques to create structure and form, looking at how artists design and build sculptures. They will develop their skills through sketching, modelling and refining their ideas, before creating and evaluating their own 3D sculpture.

RE
RE
This half term, Year 6 pupils will be learning about what it means to be a Muslim in Britain today. Children will explore key beliefs in Islam, including the Five Pillars, and learn how these guide daily life. They will look at the importance of charity (Zakah) and pilgrimage (Hajj), as well as finding out about mosques and the experiences of Muslims living in Britain today, helping them understand how beliefs are put into practice.

This half term, children will explore the topic of jobs. They will learn to name different professions, talk about what people do for a living and describe jobs using adjectives. Children will also begin to talk about their future aspirations, developing their ability to form longer, more complex sentences in Spanish.

Children learn to:
- Develop strength, stamina and speed, pacing effectively.
- Perform efficient relay changeovers at high speed.
- Jump with strength, balance and speed across all phases.
- Throw with excellent accuracy, power and run-up technique.
- Aim for personal bests and help organise or manage events.
- Take responsibility for personal warm-ups and safe practice.

PSHE
This half term, Year 6 pupils will be learning about citizenship. Children will explore what it means to be part of a community, including understanding rules, laws and how decisions are made. They will discuss rights and responsibilities, learn how people can have a voice, and think about how they can make a positive contribution to society.

Music
Music
This term, children will develop their performance and composition skills through more advanced musical structures. They will sing and play in different textures, including rounds and layered parts, and learn how to maintain their own part within a group. Children will also compose and improvise, using a range of musical elements to refine and evaluate their work.
