In Nursery, we’ll be playing, exploring, and learning together as we take our first steps on our school journey. This year is all about building confidence, making friends, and developing a love for learning through play.

Literacy
Literacy
Children will read and retell fun stories such as What the ladybird heard at the seaside and Steven Seagull. They will write beach bag lists, what they can see at the beach and practise writing their names. Their phonics sessions will continue, helping them become more confident readers and writers.

Maths
Maths
Through hands-on activities, children will explore linking numerals to amounts, looking at patterns from different cultures, describing & copying patterns and even creating their own patterns. Outdoor activities and group games will help bring their maths learning to life.

Communication and Language
Communication and Language
Children will take part in our talk through stories sessions. They will listen to Rainbow fish, Wonky Donkey and Billy's Bucket. They will learn new vocabulary and develop their inference skills through listening to these stories.
Children will be encouraged to talk constantly by being asked open ended questions and being encouraged to think more deeply.

Personal, Socal and Emotional Development
This half term, children will think about how they can stay safe at the seaside. They will discuss their feelings as they get ready for Reception. They’ll work together in teams, take turns in role play, and start to share their thoughts and feelings about moving on. They'll play turn taking games and practise speaking and listening to each other.

Physical Development
Physical Development
Children will develop their fine motor skills through threading, using tweezers, cutting, and drawing. Outdoors, they will be able to explore freely, developing their imagination and communication skills . To develop gross motor skills, children will use balance bikes, take part in dough disco and Squiggle whilst you Wiggle sessions.

Understanding The World
Children will learn about different seaside resorts, they will look in particular at safety. They will look at maps, globes, and photos to spark curiosity. Outdoors, they’ll notice seasonal changes and look at clouds and cloud formations.

Expressive Art and Design
Expressive Art and Design
Children will create different seaside creature art pieces using different types of media. They will use instruments and body sounds to recreate seaside noises. There will be lots of chances to get creative and have fun.
