Curriculum
'Parochial Cares', our mission is to prepare children for the future by living, learning and growing together in God.
To live life... life in all its fullness- (John 10:10)
Curriculum at Parochial
At Parochial C of E Primary School, our curriculum is shaped by our mission: to prepare children for the future by living, learning, and growing together in God. We want our pupils to flourish academically, socially, emotionally, and spiritually — to live life in all its fullness (John 10:10).
We provide a broad, ambitious, and knowledge-rich curriculum that enables every child to thrive. It reflects our local context, celebrates diversity, and helps pupils grow into confident, thoughtful, and compassionate individuals. Our curriculum is rooted in the four core pillars of the Church of England’s vision for education:

Educating for Dignity and Respect
Educating for Dignity and Respect
We teach children to recognise the value in every individual. Our curriculum is inclusive, representative, and underpinned by strong moral teaching. We ensure all children see themselves reflected in what they learn and promote respectful discussion, curiosity, and kindness.
-
Educating for Hope and Aspiration
Educating for Hope and Aspiration
We nurture confident, hopeful learners who believe they can achieve great things. Our curriculum introduces inspirational figures, explores big questions, and encourages pupils to express themselves, take risks, and set goals. We promote ambition, resilience, and a strong sense of self-worth.

Educating for Wisdom, Knowledge and Skills
Educating for Wisdom, Knowledge and Skills
Children at Parochial build deep knowledge and transferable skills across the curriculum. Our carefully sequenced long-term plans ensure key concepts are revisited and embedded. We provide rich opportunities for critical thinking, creativity, and independent learning in every subject.

Educating for Community and Living Well Together
Educating for Community and Living Well Together
Our curriculum reflects our strong sense of community. Pupils learn about their local area, work collaboratively, and take on leadership roles in eco-action, pupil parliament, and collective worship. Subjects such as history, geography, PSHE, and RE promote empathy, shared values, and understanding of others.
Intent, Implementation and Impact
Intent
Our curriculum is designed to equip all pupils — regardless of background, starting point, or need — with the knowledge, skills, and values to succeed. We aim to spark curiosity, develop mastery, and nurture a lifelong love of learning.
Implementation
Each subject is led by a dedicated subject lead, supported by senior leaders and high-quality CPD. Our curriculum maps and progression documents ensure content is taught in a logical, coherent sequence. Teachers use engaging, evidence-informed approaches to bring learning to life.
Impact
We assess learning through responsive teaching, feedback, and regular assessments. More importantly, we look at the depth of understanding, quality of discussions, and how confidently children apply knowledge across subjects. Pupil voice is key in shaping and refining our curriculum.
Assessment and Progression
Assessment is purposeful and supports learning. Teachers assess regularly through questioning, observation, marking, and dialogue. Summative assessments help identify gaps, inform planning, and support targeted interventions.
Assessment is inclusive and fair, ensuring all pupils — including those with SEND, EAL, or working below age-related expectations — can make progress. Children are also encouraged to reflect on their own learning and identify next steps.
A Broad, Balanced and Enriched Curriculum
Our curriculum is enriched through:
-
Specialist teaching in music, Spanish, dance, and PE
-
1:1 iPads for Key Stage 2 pupils, supporting blended learning, research, and independence
-
Educational visits, visitors, and workshops
-
Whole-school events such as debates, performances, book festivals, and exhibitions
-
Leadership, teamwork, and social action opportunities
We believe every subject matters. From science to story writing, geography to graphic art, our curriculum helps children grow in confidence, competence, and character.
