English
English
This half term our writing will center around World War II. We will first explore poetry with "Blitz Poetry" by Mary Désirée Anderson, focusing on experimentation with personification and creating imagery. We will build up to writing a narrative poem from the perspective of a child, witnessing the Blitz.
We will then move into some more narrative writing with "Star of Fear, Star of Hope" by
Jo Hoestlandt. During this unit we will experiment with: using small details about characters to amuse or create drama; manipulating tense and verb forms; using passive verbs and integrating dialogue to advance the action. We will build up to writing a flashback story, from another character's point of view.

Maths
Maths
This half term we will start our learning by recapping place value, and extending our understanding on to place value within 10,000,000. Children will be able to compare and order numbers within this range, as well as round any given number. We will also delve into negative numbers on a deeper level.
We will also begin looking at the Four Operations: Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication and Division. As well as general arithmetic within this unit, children will explore Factors, Multiples, as well as gain an understanding of Prime Numbers. -
Science
Science
This half term, we will be exploring Evolution and Inheritance. We will begin this unit by exploring Natural Selection as a theory, including how it came to be, and the mastermind behind it. We will also explore adaptations to plants and animals (including humans), that make the species more suitable to survive in its environment. We will also explore how fossils are important and useful in learning more about these adaptations.

History
This half term we will explore Monarchy. We will begin by exploring the Norman Conquest and the Battle of Hastings in 1066, before moving our focus onto King John and the signing of the Magna Carta. Later in the unit, we will delve into the life and history of King Henry VIII and important moments in his memorable reign. We will finish the unit by exploring the importance of Queen Anne, as well as the impact the British Empire had on the world, and what it meant for Britain.

Art
This half term we will be exploring Photography. We will first explore Macro Photography, and how we can use distance and persepective to create visually interesting photographs. We will also explore the work of our key artist - Derrick O. Boateng and create some of our own colourful, artistic photos in his style.

RE
RE
This half term we will explore the question, "How do Christians live?" and "What would Jesus do?" We will begin by looking at where Christians learn about Jesus, and why they think it is wise to follow Jesus' teachings. We will also explore how some Christians follow Jesus' example in caring for those in need, and how we can see practical examples of this in our day-to-day lives.

Computing
Computing
This half term in Computing we will begin our study with Online Safety. During this important unit, we will explore how Online Behaviour and Screen Time are crucial in deciding and growing on healthy digital presence. We will also recap what children should do, should they ever find anything online that makes them unhappy or feel unsafe.
Once complete, we will move onto Blogging. During this unit, children will learn: what makes a good blog; how blogs are structured as well as how to create and develop their own blog around a subject area they are passionate about. We will also plan and create a class blog (shared) where children can collaborate together.

Spanish
This half term, children will be learning to talk about their families in Spanish. They’ll create and describe a family tree, practise using adjectives to describe people, and ask and answer questions about siblings and relatives. There’s a strong focus on speaking and writing in full sentences with correct grammar.

This half term we will explore Families and Relationships, during which we will understand what respect is, how it is earned and how it is given. We will also explore Respectful Relationships, as well as times where repect is not shown, including stereotypes and conflict between friends. We will know how and when to challenge stereotypes and how to resolve and support friends though times of conflict.
