English
This term in English, we will be reading Arthur and the Golden Rope by Joe Todd-Stanton .
We will, write a a myth: to create characters (heroes, villains and monsters) and settings. Children will use expanded noun phrases to convey complicated information concisely, use relative clauses beginning with who, which, where, when, whose, that or an omitted relative pronoun, link ideas across paragraphs using adverbials and use commas to clarify meaning and avoid ambiguity in writing

Fractions
In maths children will,
- multiply proper fractions and mixed numbers by whole numbers, supported by materials and diagrams, read and write decimal numbers as fractions [for example, 0.71 = [Fraction:71/100] ], recognise and use thousandths and relate them to tenths, hundredths and decimal equivalents, round decimals with 2 decimal places to the nearest whole number and to 1 decimal place, read, write, order and compare numbers with up to 3 decimal places and solve problems involving number up to 3 decimal places
- recognise the per cent symbol (%) and understand that per cent relates to ‘number of parts per 100’, and write percentages as a fraction with denominator 100, and as a decimal fraction.
Perimeter and Area
- Children will, measure and calculate the perimeter of composite rectilinear shapes in centimetres and metres and calculate and compare the area of rectangles (including squares), including using standard units, square centimetres (cm²) and square metres (m²), and estimate the area of irregular shapes

In Science this term, we will be learning about Forces

- Children will explain that unsupported objects fall towards the Earth because of the force of gravity acting between the Earth and the falling object, identify the effects of air resistance, water resistance and friction, that act between moving surfaces and recognise that some mechanisms including levers, pulleys and gears allow a smaller force to have a greater effect

History
In History this term we will be learning all about Black History.
Children will examine causes and results of great events and the impact of these., study different aspects of different people- e.g. differences between men and women in a historical context, discuss and debate historical issues, compare accounts of events from different sources – fact or fiction and evaluate primary and secondary sources and make simple inferences.
Throughout this unit children will understand what the Black Lives Matter campaign, know why Britain wanted an Empire, explain how slavery became a part of the British Empire, know and explain the cause of the decline of the British Empire and know who the Wind rush Generation were.

Art
This term in Art we will focus on the artist Teis Albers to create our own printed artwork
- Children will understand and explain what retrofuturism is, participate in discussions and offer ideas, evaluate images using simple responses, sometimes using formal elements to extend ideas, provide plausible suggestions for how a piece was created, comfortably use different stimuli to draw from, use past knowledge and experience to explore a range of drawing processes, select and place textures to create a collagraph plate, applying an understanding of the material, which may be supported by testing, create a selection of drawings and visual notes that demonstrate their ideas using sketchbooks, generate a clear composition idea for a final piece that shows how it will be drawn, apply confident skills to make an effective collagraph print, independently select tools and drawing techniques, with some guidance and demonstrate growing independence, discussing ways to improve work.

In RE this term, we will be learning about Why do Hindus want to be Good?
Within this unit, pupils will build on their learning about the Hindu worldview and way of life with particular progression from the units on ‘what do Hindus believe God is like?’ and ‘what does it mean to be a Hindu in Britain today?’ They will build on their understanding of dharma. Pupils will hear and interpret the story of the man in the well form the Mahabharata. They will investigate the key concepts of Karma, Dharma and samsara and how this might affect how a Hindu chooses to live their life using the example of two charities.

Computing
Computing
This term in ICT, we will be learning about Coding
Children will start by looking at existing code, asking the children to ‘read’ it and make Predictions to what they think will happen when the code is run. They will then Run the code and discuss what happens and relate it back to their predictions. Children will spend time Investigating the code and looking at how different parts work. Once children have an understanding of how the code works, they will be encouraged to Modify it - changing and adding code and re-running the program to view the impact of their changes. Once confident with this, they are encouraged to try and Make their own program from scratch.

Spanish
This half term in Spanish, children will explore vocabulary linked to television, music and films. They will practise expressing opinions and justifying their views, ask and answer questions, and take part in role-play activities, building fluency and accuracy in both spoken and written Spanish.

PE
In hockey this half term, Year 5 will
- Strengthen core skills with better body position (bend knees, straight back).
- Dribble, pass, receive, and tackle with increased accuracy and control.
- Mark players more effectively and defend their goal.
- Play small-sided games with improved tactical awareness and positioning.
- Ask questions to improve performance and recognise strengths and areas to practise.

PSHE
PSHE
This term in PSHE we will be learning about:
Safety
Children will understand what is safe to share online and what to do before sending a message, identify possible dangers online, suggesting ways to stay safe, using the web to research relevant information, assess a casualty’s condition; calmly, comfort and reassure a casualty who is bleeding; and seek medical help if required and understand that other people can influence our decisions but we have the right to make our own choices.
The Changing Body
- Children will accurately name all the relevant parts of the body, understand the changes their own gender will go through during puberty and list the range of changes they will go through during puberty.

Music
Music
During the spring term, children explore a range of musical styles including blues, gospel and popular music. They develop improvisation skills, experiment with rhythm and beatboxing, and begin to use staff notation when composing. Children listen critically to music and evaluate how different musical elements are used to achieve an intended effect.
