This term in English, we will be reading The Darkest Dark by Chris Hadfield
We will, write a formal biography about Chris Hadfield. We will include mastery keys: Variety of verb forms used correctly and consistently, commas to clarify meaning or avoid ambiguity in writing, Link ideas across paragraphs using adverbials and tense choices and use brackets, dashes or commas to indicate parenthesis

Multiplication and Division
- We will divide numbers up to 4 digits by a one-digit number using the formal written method of short division and interpret remainders appropriately for the context,
- multiply and divide whole numbers and those involving decimals by 10, 100 and 1,000
- recognise and use square numbers and cube numbers, and the notation for squared (²) and cubed (³), solve problems involving multiplication and division, including using their knowledge of factors and multiples, squares and cubes, solve problems involving addition, subtraction, multiplication and division and a combination of these, including understanding the meaning of the equals sign and solve problems involving multiplication and division, including scaling by simple fractions and problems involving simple rates

- We will, describe the movement of the Earth and other planets relative to the sun in the solar system, describe the movement of the moon relative to the Earth, describe the sun, Earth and moon as approximately spherical bodies and use the idea of the Earth’s rotation to explain day and night and the apparent movement of the sun across the sky

In History this term we will be learning all about Manchester and It's Mills
We will identify and explain the purpose of the Manchester Royal Exchange, know who Richard Arkwright was and his importance, research local Mills and their purpose then and now, understand what life was like as a factory worker in Victorian Manchester and know what it was like to be a Victorian child in Manchester

Design Technology
This term in DT we will focus on building bridges
- We will identify stronger and weaker supporting shapes, recognise that supporting shapes can help increase the strength of a bridge so it can hold more weight, identify beam, arch and truss bridges and describe their differences, use triangles to create simple truss bridges that support a load (weight), cut beams to the correct size using a cutting mat, smooth down rough cut edges with sandpaper, follow each stage of the truss bridge creation as instructed by the teacher, complete a bridge with varying ranges of accuracy and finish supported by the teacher and identify some areas for improvement and reinforcing bridges as necessary.

In RE this term, we will be learning about Creation and science; conflicting or complementary?
Within this unit, pupils will find out about the importance of creation within the ‘Big Story’ of the Bible. They will study Genesis 1 and find out about how different Christians may interpret this text in different ways. Pupils will spend time discussing and weighing up whether Genesis 1 is conflicting or complementary with what science says. Pupils will also encounter scientists who are religious and those who are not, and discuss how they may or may not find science and faith compatible. They will encounter different theological theories that some Christians use to interpret the creation story, suggesting why these may be helpful for believers. By the end of the unit, pupils should understand that whilst some people see science and religion as opposites, others do not.

This term in ICT, we will be learning about Game Creation
This half term in Computing, children will be learning how to design and create their own 2D/3D computer game. They will begin by exploring what makes a successful game and start planning their own ideas. Next, they will design the game environment, creating settings using drawing tools or images. They will then develop a playable quest by designing characters and choosing appropriate animations and sounds. Towards the end of the unit, children will refine, finish and share their games, writing clear instructions for others to play. Finally, they will evaluate their own and others’ games to reflect on their learning and identify ways to improve their designs in the future.

Spanish
This half term, children will extend their knowledge of food and eating out. They will describe what they eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner, tell the time, discuss prices and practise ordering food in a restaurant. Through role-play and written tasks, children will develop greater fluency, accuracy and confidence in conversational Spanish.

In hockey this half term, Year 5 will
- Strengthen core skills with better body position (bend knees, straight back).
- Dribble, pass, receive, and tackle with increased accuracy and control.
- Mark players more effectively and defend their goal.
- Play small-sided games with improved tactical awareness and positioning.
- Ask questions to improve performance and recognise strengths and areas to practise.

PSHE
This term in PSHE we will be learning about:
Safety
Children will understand what is safe to share online and what to do before sending a message, identify possible dangers online, suggesting ways to stay safe, using the web to research relevant information, assess a casualty’s condition; calmly, comfort and reassure a casualty who is bleeding; and seek medical help if required and understand that other people can influence our decisions but we have the right to make our own choices.
The Changing Body
- Children will accurately name all the relevant parts of the body, understand the changes their own gender will go through during puberty and list the range of changes they will go through during puberty.

Music
Music
During the spring term, children explore a range of musical styles including blues, gospel and popular music. They develop improvisation skills, experiment with rhythm and beatboxing, and begin to use staff notation when composing. Children listen critically to music and evaluate how different musical elements are used to achieve an intended effect.
