English
English
In English this half term, we will be studying The Big Blue Whale by Nicola Davies. The children will develop their non-fiction writing skills by researching whales and writing an informative, persuasive article about why blue whales need protection. They will learn to use similes, adverbs and conjunctions to add detail and cohesion, and organise their ideas into clear paragraphs. We will explore whale migration, feeding habits and the dangers they face. By the end of the unit, pupils will plan, write and edit their own engaging articles to inspire others to protect these magnificent creatures.

Maths
Maths
In Power Maths, we will begin our Length unit, where pupils will learn to measure, compare and order lengths using centimetres and metres. They will practise using rulers accurately and apply their understanding to solve practical measurement problems.
We will then move on to Fractions, where children will recognise and find fractions of shapes and numbers. They will compare fractions and solve problems involving halves, quarters and thirds, before learning to add and subtract fractions with the same denominator.

PSHE
We will continue our learning on safety and the changing body, including how to respond to cyberbullying and unkind online behaviour, develop responsible digital citizenship, and stay safe near roads. Pupils will learn to recognise unsafe digital content and understand key safety rules. We will then move into Citizenship, where children will explore adults’ responsibilities in supporting children’s rights, the benefits of recycling, local community groups and buildings, how charities help others, how local democracy works, and why rules and consequences are important.

RE
What is the Trinity and why is it important for Christians? We will be learning about the baptism of Jesus and where this is found in the Bible. We will consider what this might mean for the Christians today. We will investigate how Christians show their beliefs about God and the Trinity and how these impact upon their lives. We will be also learning about infant and believer's baptisms in the church.

Science
Science
Plants - We will identify and describe the functions of different parts of flowering plants: roots, stem/trunk, leaves and flowers. We will explore the requirements of plants for life and growth (air, light, water, nutrients from soil, and room to grow) and how they vary from plant to plant. We will investigate the way in which water is transported within plants and explore the part that flowers play in the life cycle of flowering plants, including pollination, seed formation and seed dispersal.

History
In History this half term we will explore life in Ancient Egypt over 5,000 years ago. Children will learn why Egyptians settled near the River Nile and how it shaped their civilisation. We will investigate the purpose of pyramids, the process of mummification and the important role of Pharaohs as leaders and gods. Pupils will research everyday life, comparing the lives of the rich and poor and consider how children’s lives differed from today. We will also compare Ancient Egypt with the Stone Age and explore hieroglyphics, understanding why reading and writing were mainly for the wealthy.

Design Technology
Design Technology
In DT this half term, children will learn that a mechanism is a system of parts working together to create movement and that pneumatic systems use air to make things move. They will explore everyday examples and different types of design drawings, understanding which are most useful. Pupils will develop design criteria from a brief and create their own ideas using diagrams. They will then design and make a pneumatic toy with secure housing, selecting sustainable materials and using cutting, creasing and folding techniques. Finally, children will evaluate how effectively their design meets the brief.

Dance
This half term, Year 3 are learning how to create dance sequences with structure and style. They’ll practise modern dance moves, explore different formations (like circles or zig-zags), and perform routines with a clear beginning and end. They’ll also begin to reflect on how they can improve their performances.

Music
In the spring term, children develop accuracy in singing and begin to use basic notation to represent pitch and rhythm. They explore how music can create mood and atmosphere, perform songs in parts, and experiment with composing short pieces. Children listen to music from a range of traditions and begin to use musical vocabulary to explain their ideas.

Computing
Computing
In Computing this half term, children will use Purple Mash to develop their understanding of email. They will learn how to compose, send and reply to emails safely while exploring the importance of online etiquette and digital safety. Pupils will then begin working with branching databases, learning how to group and classify information using yes and no questions to help sort data accurately.

Spanish
Spanish
This half term, children will explore food and drink vocabulary in more depth and practise expressing their preferences using opinion phrases. They will describe what they eat for different meals of the day and learn how to say when they eat them. Children will take part in restaurant role-play activities, developing their confidence in speaking and beginning to apply grammatical rules such as singular and plural forms.
