RE
RE
This half term we will learn about the concept of ‘Gospel’ and the good news of forgiveness, peace and love that Christians believe Jesus brings. Children will learn about Matthew the Tax Collector and how Christians believe that Jesus offers forgiveness, looking at their heart rather than what they have done in the past. We will learn about the instructions that Jesus gives in the Bible and how Christians follow his example and these instructions in order to behave in a Christ like way. Children will take time to consider whether Jesus’ good news is only good news for Christians or whether there are things for people from different worldviews to consider.
-
Science
Science
In Science, we will be learning about everyday materials, such as glass, wood, paper and plastic. We will look at how these materials are used and investigate how the shape of different objects can change. We will use this knowledge to redesign Pudding Lane in a way that would stop The Great Fire of London being such a disaster.
-
Spanish
Spanish
This half term in Spanish, children will be learning to talk about hobbies and sports. They’ll learn how to name a range of activities such as swimming, football, and painting, and practise asking and giving opinions like “I like…” and “I don’t like…”. They’ll also learn to say which sports they do, when they do them, and who they do them with, using words for days of the week and family members. The children will practise speaking, listening, reading and writing in Spanish through games, songs and stories, building their confidence in using the language in real conversations.

They’ll take part in relay-style activities, explore how to move safely in space, and begin to understand how to improve their own performance.
-
Design Technology
Design Technology
This half term we will be studying structures and mechanisms. We will design and create a functional fairground wheel so that the wheel rotates and the structure stands freely.
We will be learning to;
- Describe how axles help wheels move a vehicle and design and label a working fairground wheel.
- Evaluate different designs.
- Describe the properties of different materials and select appropriate materials for the wheel.
- Build a stable structure, test elements of the design and adapt the design as necessary.
- Make the wheel rotate, evaluate a wheel mechanism and adapt it as necessary.
- Recall that a survey is used to find out what people like, tally results and use the results to inform the design.
- Add pods for the correct number of people and ensure that the pods stay upright when rotating around a fixed point.
- Explain the decisions for the pod design.
-

This half term we will be learning how create spreadsheets and what they might be used for.
Children will navigate around a spreadsheet, explain what rows and columns are and enter data into cells. Children will use the menu buttons to add different types of images, use the apparatus images to solve maths questions and use the ‘equal to’ tool to check their calculations. Children will use the clipart gallery to add images to a spreadsheet, give images a value and make use of the values given to images in calculations. Children will use tools in a spreadsheet to automatically total rows and columns and use a spreadsheet to solve a mathematical puzzle. Children will use the count tool to count items and use the speak tool so that the items are counted out loud. We will also create a table of data on a spreadsheet and use a spreadsheet program to automatically create charts and graphs from data
In Year 2, we use Class Dojo to set and submit homework tasks.
