English
This half-term, the children are exploring a poem called Fox by Kathy Henderson. It’s a beautiful poem that describes a fox moving quickly and silently through the countryside. The poem uses exciting words and creates strong pictures in our minds.
We will;

Read and talk about the poem

Write a letter as if they are the fox, describing its journey

This half term we’re learning about:

Position and Direction - language of position, describing movement and turns and making patterns by turning shapes.

Statistics - making tally charts, making tables, using block diagrams and drawing and interpreting pictograms

Our theme is Economic Wellbeing. We’ll learn:
- Exploring needs and wants
- Using bank cards and accounts
- Identifying our skills and talents and linking them to jobs
- Describing how to make sure everyone feels welcome and is included

We will be learning how to make a pouch using textiles.
We will sew a running stitch with regular-sized stitches, prepare and cut fabric to make a pouch from a template, use a running stitch to join the two pieces of fabric together and decorate the pouch using various materials.

This half term our topic is Living Things and Their Habitats
We will be;
constructing food chains, describing food chains from animals locally and from afar, grouping things according to whether they are dead, alive or never been alive, understanding deforestation and the effect it has on the world, looking at plastic pollution, it's effects and how we can help to reduce it.

Spanish
This half term in Spanish, children will be learning to talk about hobbies and sports. They’ll learn how to name a range of activities such as swimming, football, and painting, and practise asking and giving opinions like “I like…” and “I don’t like…”. They’ll also learn to say which sports they do, when they do them, and who they do them with, using words for days of the week and family members. The children will practise speaking, listening, reading and writing in Spanish through games, songs and stories, building their confidence in using the language in real conversations.

This half term, Year 2 will be building their athletics skills by running at different speeds, learning how to jump and land with control, and throwing with accuracy. They’ll take part in relay-style activities, explore how to move safely in space, and begin to understand how to improve their own performance.

Dance
Year 2 are building on their dance skills by combining actions to create short routines. They’ll explore direction, levels and timing, and begin to perform in unison or mirror a partner’s movements. The focus is on control, teamwork and enjoying movement through music.

This half term we will be learning to;
Make Music
We will be learning to make music digitally, sequencing music, add sounds to a tune to improve it and think about how music can be used to express feelings and create tunes which depict feelings, to upload a sound from a bank of sounds into the sounds section, to record their own sound and upload it into the sounds section, to create our own tune using the sounds which they we added to the sounds section.
