They will learn to listen carefully and respond appropriately, ask relevant questions, and speak clearly when describing, explaining and telling stories, while taking an active part in group discussions. Through reading, children will listen to and talk about a wide range of poems, stories and non-fiction texts, including both modern and classic works. They will discuss the meanings of new words, use their own knowledge and teacher-provided vocabulary to help understanding, and explain their ideas about what they have read or heard. In writing, children will write their own poems, record ideas and new vocabulary, plan their work by talking it through, build sentences carefully, and re-read their writing to make sure it makes sense and uses correct verb tenses.
We will then move onto our story

Computing
Computing
In Year 2 computing, children will be introduced to the basics of programming in a fun and accessible way. They will learn what an algorithm is and understand that it is a clear set of instructions that a computer must follow to make something happen. Children will create and describe their own simple programs, exploring how instructions work in sequence. As they progress, they will learn about features such as collision detection, timers, and buttons, helping them design programs where objects move, react, and change over time. They will explore how different objects have different properties and how these can be adjusted to improve their designs. Children will also begin to read simple blocks of code and predict what will happen when a program runs. An important part of this learning is debugging, where children learn to test their programs, spot mistakes, and fix them. This topic helps develop problem-solving skills, logical thinking, and resilience, while building confidence and enjoyment in computing.
