Literacy
Literacy
Reception will be reading a classic 'The Enormous Turnip' as part of their Talk for Writing unit. This text will be used to support them in creating their own ideas. Children will learn actions to support the retelling of the story, create a class story map to sequence the story, and have plentiful writing opportunities throughout. Some of our writing opportunities will include writing a list of vegetables, writing simple sentences about the story, and designing a new front cover for the story.

Maths
Maths
Children will be exploring number bonds to 10, subtraction and exploring patterns. The children will engage in our Power Maths sessions and complete focus tasks in small groups to help deepen their understanding. The children will have access to rich enhancements within the provision to support their learning and understanding.

Communication and Language
Communication and Language
Children will engage in discussions around parts of plants, observing and building curiosity around how plants grow, and exploring different mini beasts. We will explore different plants, vegetables, mini beasts and life cycles. The children will be engaging in biweekly sessions at St. Gabriels church to form part of their understanding with this new topic - garden Detectives. We will have plentiful opportunities to discuss a variety of rich texts and further enhance their knowledge and skills.

Personal, Socal and Emotional Development
Personal, Socal and Emotional Development
Through stories and circle time, children will be focusing on self-regulation and following instructions. We will be using our time to engage in meaningful games to help communicate effectively with others, practice 'good listening', and to learn new skills that will help build their independence and support their self-regulation. Some key vocabulary includes: listen, listening and understanding.

Physical Development
Physical Development
Children will be developing their gross motor skills during our PE lessons. We will be following Active Tameside's 'Little Tumblers' scheme of work to develop gymnastic skills. This is continued from Spring 1. In addition to this, children will have plentiful opportunities to develop their fine motor skills by engaging in dough disco, painting different autumnal animals, and cutting and sticking.

Understanding The World
Understanding The World
Children will be exploring 'Why is Easter special for Christians?'. The children will find out about the key events from Palm Sunday until Easter Day in the Christian Salvation story. They will find out about the Christian belief that Jesus saved his people from their sins by dying on the cross and rising again three days later. Our key vocabulary in this unit include: JESUS • GOD •SALVATION •EASTER • HOSANNA •PALM • GOOD FRIDAY • DONKEY •SUNDAY • DISCIPLES

Expressive Art and Design
Expressive Art and Design
In our DT sessions we will be focusing on our new unit - Textiles. Our main focus is 'Bookmarks'. We will be encouraging children to develop and practise threading and weaving techniques using various materials and objects. They will look at the history of the bookmark from Victorian times versus modern-day styles.
