Meet Frank - Our School Dog
We’re delighted to introduce Frank, our very special school dog!
Frank is already a much-loved member of the Parochial family. He is calm, friendly, and loves being around children and staff. Over time, Frank will be trained to become a therapy dog, helping to support the wellbeing of everyone in our school community.
Why Have a School Dog?
There are lots of benefits to having a school dog, including:
-
Supporting mental health and wellbeing
Frank helps children feel calm, comforted, and less anxious. -
Encouraging reading and communication
Children can build confidence by reading aloud to Frank or chatting with him. -
Teaching responsibility and empathy
Looking after Frank teaches children how to care for others with gentleness and respect. -
Creating smiles
Frank brings joy, comfort and a little bit of magic wherever he goes!
Frank’s Role in School
Frank spends time around the school in a gentle and controlled way. His timetable is carefully managed, and he always works with a trained adult. Over time, he will:
-
Visit classrooms
-
Spend quiet time with children who need a boost
-
Take part in wellbeing activities
-
Listen to readers and join in with therapy-style sessions
Frank is never left unsupervised, and his interactions are always consent-based and optional for children.
Keeping Everyone Safe
We know that some children and adults may be unsure or nervous around dogs. That’s why we’ve put plans in place to make sure Frank’s presence is safe and positive for everyone:
-
Children will only interact with Frank with adult supervision
-
Frank will have regular health checks and vaccinations
-
He will be trained to be calm, responsive, and friendly
-
We will respect families’ views and ensure no child is forced to be around Frank
Getting to Know Frank
Frank is a Poodle/ Retriever/ Burmese who loves tummy rubs, going for walks, and curling up for a nap after school. He’s still growing and learning – just like the children!
You’ll see him around school with his floppy ears and wagging tail!
Want to Know More?
If you have questions or concerns about Frank, please speak to a member of staff. We’re more than happy to chat about his training, safety, or how we introduce him to children.
