This term in English, we will be reading The Lost Happy Endings by Carol Ann Duffy and Jane Ray.
We will, write a traditional tale focusing on describing settings, characters and an alternative ending - pupils will write the story of a character who mistreats others which leads to their own demise. We will focus on using expanded noun phrases to convey complicated information concisely, describing settings, characters and atmosphere, integrating dialogue to convey character and advance the action and using inverted commas and other punctuation to punctuate direct speech

Multiplication and Division
In maths children will, identify multiples and factors, including finding all factor pairs of a number, and common factors of two numbers, know and use the vocabulary of prime numbers, prime factors and composite (non prime) numbers, establish whether a number up to 100 is prime and recall prime numbers up to 19, multiply numbers up to 4 digits by a one- or two-digit number using a formal written method, including long multiplication for two-digit numbers, multiply and divide numbers mentally drawing upon known facts, divide numbers up to 4 digits by a one-digit number using the formal written method of short division and interpret remainders appropriately for the context and multiply and divide whole numbers and those involving decimals by 10, 100 and 1000

- Children will describe the differences in the life cycles of a mammal, an amphibian, an insect and a bird, describe the life process of reproduction in some plants and animals and
- describe the changes as humans develop to old age

In History this term we will be learning all about Africa.
In this topic we will learn about the biomes in Africa, explore the origins of the Djembe Drum, understand the origins of Benin and how it became powerful, understand the negative impact of the British empire on the people of Benin, understand how bias affects our understanding of History, Use artefacts to identify historical events which took place in Benin and understand the Europeans affect on the people of Benin.

Design Technology
Design Technology
This term in Design Technology we will design, create and evaluate a stuffed toy.
- Children will, design a stuffed toy, considering the main component shapes of their toy, create an appropriate template for their stuffed toy, join two pieces of fabric using a blanket stitch, neatly cut out their fabric, use appliqué or decorative stitching to decorate the front of their stuffed toy, use blanket stitch to assemble their stuffed toy, repairing when needed and identify what worked well and areas for improvement.

In RE this term, we will be learning about Why is the Torah so important for Jewish people.
Within this unit, pupils will build on their learning about the Jewish worldview and way of life. They will build on their understanding that Jews are a diverse group of people by investigating Census data and reflecting on the different cultural heritages of British Jews. They will investigate the centrality of Torah through examining how a Sefer Torah is constructed, it’s place within the synagogue and how different Jews may interpret the Torah in diverse ways. They will consider how interpretation of Torah influences dietary choices. Finally, they will reflect on how Jewish practice is being adapted in the light of current thinking on gender and climate.

This term in ICT, we will be learning about Spreadsheets
Children will learn to use formulae within a spreadsheet to convert measurements of length and distance, use a spreadsheet to model a real-life problem, use formulae to calculate area and perimeter of shapes, use a spreadsheet to investigate the probability of the results of throwing many dice, Use spreadsheets to model real-life situations, use the created spreadsheet to make decisions about these situations and use the count tool to answer hypotheses about common letters in use.

This half term in Spanish, children will be learning how to talk about future plans. They’ll explore vocabulary linked to jobs and aspirations, practising how to say what they want to be when they’re older and why. They’ll use sentence starters, connectives, and opinion phrases to build more detailed sentences, and revisit key grammar such as gender, word order, and adjective agreement. Through games, speaking tasks, and writing challenges, children will grow in confidence expressing themselves in Spanish — all while thinking about their hopes and dreams for the future.

In hockey this half term, Year 5 will
- Strengthen core skills with better body position (bend knees, straight back).
- Dribble, pass, receive, and tackle with increased accuracy and control.
- Mark players more effectively and defend their goal.
- Play small-sided games with improved tactical awareness and positioning.
- Ask questions to improve performance and recognise strengths and areas to practise.

This term in PSHE we will be learning about Health and Wellbeing
- Perform some yoga poses, following the instructions from a video, and describe how yoga makes them feel.
- Children will, describe how they can get a good night’s sleep and explain why this is important, describe why they should embrace failure, describe a strategy to help manage feelings of failure and to help them to persevere, set themselves goals and consider how they will achieve them, describe a range of feelings and suggest two ways of dealing with a difficult situation, demonstrate an understanding of what calories are and how to use them to help plan healthy meals, recognise the food groups and acknowledge that having a variety of food is important for having a balanced and healthy diet, understand how to keep safe in the sun and some of the risks, now and in the future, if they don’t.

This term in Year 5, children will explore more complex musical skills including rhythm notation, harmony, and ensemble performance. They’ll sing and perform confidently using body percussion, tuned and untuned instruments, and begin to improvise within a structure. Pupils will learn how to layer rhythms, keep in time with others, and follow musical cues. They’ll listen carefully to a range of musical styles and learn how to describe music using technical vocabulary. Through singing, movement, and creative music-making, they’ll build confidence as performers and composers.
