Literacy
Literacy
Using rich texts like Mr Grumpy's Outing and The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch, children will write postcards, packing lists, and simple travel guides. Storytelling and Talk for Writing will support them in retelling and creating their own travel tales.

Maths
Children will explore counting, addition, and subtraction through transport sorting and ticket role-play. They’ll use language related to time, money, and direction as they plan pretend journeys and use maps to solve problems.

Communication and Language
Children will enjoy sharing stories, role-playing holiday adventures, and exploring new vocabulary like luggage, abroad, and travel. They’ll join in discussions about their own holidays and listen to others, helping them build confidence in speaking and understanding.

Personal, Socal and Emotional Development
Personal, Socal and Emotional Development
Through stories and circle time, children will think about what it means to go on a journey, how to keep safe, and how to help others. They’ll build independence by planning what to pack and taking turns in group activities. This will support their transition to Year 1.

Physical Development
Children will develop coordination through travel-themed obstacle courses, movement games, and creative dance. Fine motor skills will be strengthened by sewing holiday bookmarks, cutting and folding maps, and drawing transport routes.

Understanding The World
Understanding The World
Children will learn about different countries, explore how people travel, and think about holidays in the past and present. They’ll also take part in Forest School trips to St. Gabriel’s garden, noticing changes in the natural world and seasonal patterns.

Expressive Art and Design
Expressive Art and Design
Inspired by the seaside and travel stories, children will create textured artwork, design luggage tags, and build vehicles using construction kits. They’ll sing travel-themed songs and enjoy imaginative play in the role-play airport and beach café.
Home Learning at Parochial
In Reception, we use Class Dojo to set and submit homework tasks.
You’ll find all homework instructions, links, and due dates posted in your child’s Dojo account each week.
