Literacy
Literacy
Reception will be reading a firm favourite ' We're Going on a Bear Hunt' as part of their Talk for Writing unit. This text will be used to support them in creating their own ideas. Children will learn actions to support the retelling of the story, create a class story map to sequence the story, and have plentiful writing opportunities throughout.

Maths
Maths
Children will be exploring 2D and 3D shapes where we will be using real life objects and resources to help use describe the properties of shapes. As we have focused on our numbers to 5, we will also be exploring one more and one less. Children will use manipulatives to support their learning. Finally, we will move onto number bonds to 5.
Children will engage in many activities where they count quantities, sort shapes, sort groups of numbers and more. Our provision is rich and resourceful to support further learning and enquiry amongst the children.

Communication and Language
Children will engage in discussions around the different seasons, weather types, and animals that are nocturnal and diurnal. We will be exploring new vocabulary like Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter, nocturnal, diurnal and seasons. The children will engage in rich activities to support their discussions and help them develop their confidence in speaking and understanding.

Personal, Socal and Emotional Development
Personal, Socal and Emotional Development
Through stories and circle time, children will be thinking about building relationships and special relationships. This unit of PSHE specifically focuses on family, special people, sharing, interests, and similarities and differences. Children will build on their understanding and independence through hands on activities, and recognise important people around them.

Physical Development
Physical Development
Children will be developing their gross motor skills during our PE lessons. We will be following Active Tameside's 'Little Athletes' scheme of work to develop our movement, speed and agility. In addition to this, children will have plentiful opportunities to develop their fine motor skills by engaging in dough disco, painting different autumnal animals, and cutting and sticking.

Understanding The World
Understanding The World
Children will be exploring 'Why do Christians perform nativity plays at Christmas?' as part of their RE unit. The children will learn the key events from the Christian Christmas story and learn about Nativity performances. We will be focusing on key vocabulary such as incarnation, shepherds, angel, Jesus, Christmas, Mary, Joseph, Magi and manger. Children will also be provided with every opportunity to explore provision in the outdoor area, in all types of weather.

Expressive Art and Design
Expressive Art and Design
In our Design and Technology sessions, children will be exploring Junk Modelling. The focus is to explore a variety of materials, tools, and techniques, experimenting with colour, design, texture, form and function. The children will be introduced to key vocabulary such as join, cut, slot, bendy, stick, bend, smooth, and bumpy. Children will have access to our role play area, which has been turned into a home from home corner, and our construction area to build homes where different animals might live.
