Literacy
Literacy
Reception will be reading rich texts like "Come on, Daisy!" as part of their Talk for Writing unit. This text will be used to support them in creating their own ideas. Children will write speech bubbles to describe feelings of characters, develop a list of top tips and retell the story in their own words.
-
Maths
Maths
Children will be exploring numbers to 5 in the first few weeks. We will be focusing on counting to 5, subitising (recognising amounts without counting) to 5, comparing groups to 5, and looking at greater than and less than. After this, children will move on to looking carefully at 2D and 3D shapes.
Children will engage in many activities where they count quantities, sort shapes, sort groups of numbers and more.
-
Communication and Language
Communication and Language
Children will enjoy discussing things about themselves, and exploring new vocabulary like senses, myself, feelings, family, and relationships. They will join in discussions about what similarities and differences they all have, and share the special things about themselves. This will help the children develop their confidence in speaking and understanding.
-
Personal, Socal and Emotional Development
Personal, Socal and Emotional Development
Through stories and circle time, children will think about their feelings, and how to experience new things. They will build independence by exploring feelings and emotions through hands on activities, and recognising others feelings in group activities.
-
Physical Development
Physical Development
Children will be developing their gross motor skills during our PE lessons. We will be following Active Tameside's 'Little Stars' scheme of work to develop our throwing and catching. In addition to this, children will have plentiful opportunities to develop their fine motor skills by drawing portraits, cutting out different emotions for faces, and threading beads onto crazy pipe cleaner hair.
-
Understanding The World
Understanding The World
Children will be exploring 'Being Special and Where Do We Belong?' as part of their RE unit. The children will learn about key religious symbols for Christians, Muslims and Hindus. Children will also be provided with many opportunities to explore provision in our outdoor area, in all types of weather.
-
Expressive Art and Design
Expressive Art and Design
In our Art and Design sessions, children will be exploring painting and mixed media. The sole focus is 'Paint my World'. The children will explore a range of materials to paint and create with, and enjoy a variety of stations based within the room to develop their creative streak. Children will have access to our role play area, which has been turned into a home from home corner, and our construction area to build cities and homes where people might live.
