English
English
Throughout our poetry unit we will write individual Haikus based on the natural world and link these with others in a group to make a series, known as Renga. We will also write a letter in role as an expert which will contain an explanation about cave formation. Our focus will be to build a rich and varied vocabulary and an increasing range of sentence structures, use a variety of verb forms correctly and consistently including the progressive and the present perfect forms and use paragraphs to organise information and ideas around a theme.
-
Maths
Maths
In maths, we will describe positions on a 2-D grid as coordinates in the first quadrant, describe movements between positions as translations of a given unit to the left/right and up/down and plot specified points and draw sides to complete a given polygon.
-
Science
Science
In science, we will research how the invention of transport has an effect on global trade and research historical inventions that are still used today. We will focus on key inventors: Alexander Bell , George James Symons and Wright Brothers.
-
Geography
Geography
In geography, we will explore human geography, including: types of settlement and land use, economic activity including trade links, and the distribution of natural resources including energy, food, minerals and water. We will investigate how trade became global, how food became a global trade and understand how the UK exports and to where.
-

RE
RE
In this unit, pupils will learn about the beliefs of people from different worldviews surrounding commitment and promises. They will discuss the meaning and importance of ceremonies of commitment for religious and non-religious people. They will take time to consider the links between ideas of love, commitment and promises within the ceremonies that they study. Pupils will learn about several rites of passage and use their knowledge to reflect upon whether it is good for everyone to see life as a journey, and to mark the milestones.
-
Computing
Computing
In computing, children learn that technology can be used to organise, reorganise, develop, and explore ideas, and that working with information in this way can aid understanding. It also gives children opportunities to discuss their experiences of using ICT and how it is used in the wider world. Children will be able to apply what they have learnt in this unit when identifying key points in a story or account, writing accounts in which details of character and action are used to interest the reader and using evidence and examples to support key points.
-
Spanish
Spanish
This half term in Spanish, children will be learning how to talk about holidays. They’ll revise countries, seasons, and transport, and practise asking and answering where they go, who they go with, and how they get there. They’ll also explore holiday activities, express opinions, and revisit clothes and colours, using accurate word order and adjective agreement. Lessons include speaking, reading, writing, and listening, with plenty of fun games and even a Spanish escape room to finish the unit. By the end of term, children will be more confident using Spanish to describe their holiday experiences.
-
PE
PE
This half term, Year 4 will be refining their athletic performance across a range of events. They’ll practise sprinting, jumping and throwing with good technique, work on smooth baton changes in relay races, and begin measuring and improving their results. They will learn how to identify and justify what they consider good value for money, recognise multiple factors that influence spending decisions, and understand the importance of tracking spending habits. Pupils will also discover ways to keep money safe and begin to explore the world of work by identifying influences on job choices, reasons people may change careers, and how to respond to those influences thoughtfully. They will also consider how to challenge stereotypes and take proactive steps towards making informed, confident career decisions.
